I’ve known Brad since we were about 4 years old, so to say I was excited and honored to shoot his engagement photos with his fiancé Heather, would be an understatement. The night before the shoot we had a great dinner at Water Grill in Santa Monica, discussing the details of the next day.
Although we got off to a late start, and the South Bay was covered with thick clouds, we couldn’t have had a more perfect day. Los Angeles is already a mecca for beautiful photos, and the location Brad and Heather chose, just outside of Malibu and Brentwood was a trek to get to, but so worth it.
Brad and Heather are a very adventurous (and photogenic) couple, and wanted their engagement photos to capture their carefree and rebellious nature. They took us down a closed road for nearly a mile, and this was just to get to the outskirts of the trail! From there, we descended nearly 1,000 steps down into a secluded canyon where we had free reign for the entire day. There were only a few other adventurers down there with us.
We stopped at a graffiti filled abandoned house, walked down to an orange grove, and marveled at the redwoods. I think many couples would have been wiped out before we even got started, but Brad & Heather were in incredible spirits the whole day. As we were heading back out of the canyon, a heavy rain started to fall, leaving them hungry, soaked, but together – a fitting end to the day.
